How can I really know God?

If you, like many, have concluded that being a real Christian is more than baptism, confirmation, church membership, or clean living.  If you understand that you can not earn heaven by doing good things; you may be open to the conclusion that you must be born again, as Jesus said in John 3:3. Christianity is not something you are born into, but it is God who gives spiritual life.  We are placed into God’s family the moment we believe.   

Titus 3:5 - "Not by works of rightousness which we have done, but according to His mercy he saved us."

 

Ephesians 2:8-9 - "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

 

The Bible teaches that you must know, believe, and receive four truths to become a child of God; to be "re-born" into God’s family.

 

1. You must know that you have sinned against God.  "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23) God is absolutely holy and hates sin.
 

2. You must know the Bible leaves no question that sin leads to death and hell. "The wages of sin is death." (Romans 6:23) In this verse, death implies two concepts: physical death, and eternal punishment (Revelation 20:11-15)
 

3. You must know God loves you and gave His Son, Jesus Christ, to die as the substitute  payment for your sin.  "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. " (Romans 5:8) "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures." I (Corinthians 15:3-4)

 

4. You must repent, believing Christ died for your sins and rose from the dead, and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.  "But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name. "  (John 1:12) "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life:  and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. " (John 3:36)
